Today is June 10, 2007.  It was 40 years ago today our brother, John Gruber, a tenor drummer for the Vanguard; was attending a drum corps show just like he did so many times before, but this would be his last show.  This was the day John was struck by lightning, at age 19 and lost his life.  He is so missed by our family and it is hard to believe 40 years has passed.  Please take a moment to remember John, his great sense of humor, his antics and his contribution to the Vanguard.

Kindly,

Jane Gruber Sinclair

Jane,
I've thought of John many times over the years - the rain that day, the image of Ron Hughes trying to do CPR and the medics shaking their heads because they knew it was too late - but more often I'll remember John's sense of humor; When someone (usually Pamper or Unrath) would say something that we didn't want to hear, John would comment" "well maybe, but I kinda _ _ doubt it!" and then grin from ear to ear. John was a great friend and a great Vanguard - I'm sure he was a great brother as well.
Hope all is well today with you and yours,
Jim Grosso
